Get Blood

Understand how blood is donated, processed, and made available when you need it.

  • To receive blood, you must provide a doctor's prescription along with correctly labeled blood samples in both a plain tube and an EDTA tube. These should be submitted to the Shree Voluntary Blood Centre.
  • Depending on the specific blood component required, the processing time may range from 45 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Given that blood supplies can sometimes be limited, it is advisable to consult with the Shree Voluntary Blood Centre prior to your visit to ensure availability.
  • In a nation where blood is limited and voluntary donors are not enough, Shree Voluntary Blood Centre has simplified the process of obtaining blood.
  • Our philosophy is built on encouraging voluntary, non-remunerated blood donations as the foundation of safe and reliable blood supply.
  • When you need blood, simply contact Shree Voluntary Blood Centre and request the required component. If it is available, it will be provided at fixed testing charges, without requiring replacement donations.
  • It is mandatory to present a doctor's prescription specifying the needed component, along with the patient's blood sample for cross-matching.
  • With this process, blood banking is made simple, transparent, and efficient.

How long does it take to arrange and receive blood?

  • After collection, each unit of blood is separated into three key components — Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), and Platelets (PLT). When a patient requires a transfusion, only the specific component needed is provided, ensuring effective and targeted treatment.
  • All blood components are preserved under strictly controlled temperatures to maintain their quality and effectiveness, as detailed below:
  • Component Storage temperature Storage life Procedure before issue
Packed Cell Volume (PCV) 4°C - 6°C 42 days (With additive solution [SAGM]) Cross match
Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) -40°C 1 year Thawing
    Platelet 22°C - 24°C 5 days Physical check
Note: Depending on the type of blood component required, preparation may take up to 45 minutes.

Blood Testing Charges

  • Processing charges are applied based on the essential components involved in preparing blood. These fees cover only the cost of processing materials and do not represent the sale of blood. It is important to note that the charges reflect the maximum permissible amount for patients. Any variation in fees based on blood group, donation conditions, or time of day is strictly unethical and unlawful.
  • Shree Voluntary Blood Centre is firmly dedicated to maintaining ethical standards and does not engage in any unfair practices. Only government-approved testing charges are applied uniformly to all patients and hospitals across the city. As per the regulations in India, blood testing fees are strictly controlled by government guidelines, ensuring that no center can charge beyond the prescribed limits. The fees collected solely represent the actual expenses involved in the blood banking process, in full compliance with these standards.
